The claim was made that it's an emission requirement that stop/start cannot be permanently disabled. It simply pushes the button for you every time you start the car. Subaru uses two different styles of remotes depending on the model.

I am planning to purchase a 2021 crosstrek with the 2.5l engine, but it appears that this will have auto stop start technology in both the sport and limited models, so i have been researching ways to disable this function. Ss was designed into the vehicle from the start, pardon the pun. I absolutely *hate* the idea the start/stop feature on the '19 forester. When i was going back and forth between a 20 and a 21 i was told that auto stop/start was not on the 2021 ascent.

There is a gizmo you can buy that will leave the auto stop start in the off position but i'm really not fond of a device putting signals into the canbus system. It’s different for each model, and the problem is that you cannot permanently disable it in some. I find auto start/stop is sensitive to the pressure applied on the brake pedal. Anticipate light changes or if the engines stops and you don't want it to, ease off on the brake pedal just to hold the car and the engine will restart.

The printed owner’s manual doesn’t show or say anything about the new stop/start button. A little less pressure and it doesn't kick in. Just push the start/stop button.
